Basch Helps CIC has today announced that its AngelBox programme supported more than 650 newborn babies throughout the summer across Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow, Hillingdon and Westminster, as demand for essential baby support continues to rise at unprecedented levels.
The community enterprise, which was established to ensure that every child has a safe and supported start in life, has witnessed a significant increase in referrals from families struggling with the ongoing cost of living crisis, particularly among young parents aged 18 to 29, single-parent households, families dependent on benefits, and those with no recourse to public funds. Basch Helps delivers AngelBox, a tailored programme providing essential baby items and equipment to families experiencing financial hardship.
Throughout what the community enterprise has called its“Summer of Love” campaign, volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure families received practical support during some of the hottest weeks of the year, helping parents prepare safely for the arrival of their babies and easing financial pressures during pregnancy and early parenthood.
“Behind every AngelBox is a family facing difficult choices,” said Natalie, Basch Helps CIC. “We are increasingly seeing young parents forced to stretch already limited household budgets as the cost of everyday baby essentials continues to rise. Many families are reaching out to us because they simply cannot afford the items needed to give their newborn a safe start in life.”
The community enterprise reports that rising household expenses, inflationary pressures and increases in the cost of baby goods have left many expectant parents struggling to purchase essential items. While support services across London continue to experience growing demand, Basch Helps says the need for AngelBox has never been more prevalent.
Unlike conventional baby banks that often rely on the redistribution of available donated items, AngelBox takes a personalised and structured approach, ensuring support is tailored to the individual needs of each baby and family. The programme focuses on providing carefully selected essentials, safe sleep items, feeding support, clothing, hygiene products and equipment that families require immediately, helping reduce stress and improve confidence during the critical early months of a child’s life.
Despite our success in reaching hundreds of families this summer, Basch Helps acknowledges that its resources are under enormous pressure.
“Our resources are stretched beyond words, but we remain absolutely committed to the families who depend on us. Every day we are working to identify new funding opportunities and partnerships that will allow us to continue delivering our services as normal and ensure that no baby is left without the essentials they need.”
Basch Helps also extended its heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers who made the Summer of Love campaign possible.
