Supporting your career

This is not a social media opportunity!

It’s about supporting newborns in need and their parents

Awesome Training. Challenging Scenarios. Frontline Experience. Always A Team Effort!

To date our community organisation has supported thousands of families and their newborns with our AngelBox community service. It’s fun, its challenging and every scenario you engage in will be different and more compelling than the next.

Volunteers are a fundamental part of our community enterprise, we know your time is precious, the skills and the professional expertise you share will be invaluable in our pursuit to support newborns and their parents.

At Basch Helps CIC, we believe that the power of volunteering can positively build stronger and more inclusive communities. Join our fast-growing frontline team of volunteers, whether you’re committed to only for a few hours a month to more regular voluntary work.

Trust us all the help we can get is so appreciated.

Start your volunteering journey today

A volunteering experience like no other where every hour of your time counts towards supporting some of the most disadvantaged and underprivileged newborns that are born in London as well as engaging with their parents on a personal level.

Once we receive your application to volunteer, a senior member of the management committee will call you and have a frank discussion about our work, what it entails to be part of the AngelBox team, the training involved and if all goes well you’ll be invited to formally take up a volunteering position.

We’re particularly keen to hear from individuals that are either currently training or aspire to be London’s next generation of social workers and health care professionals, gain first hand experience supporting newborns and their families.

Vetting, Handbook, Sign on the dotted line

We work daily with very vulnerable people across London, we’re not DPD or Amazon our community activities are more in depth and personal with the sole aim of making a positive impact for families and newborns with every AngelBox delivered.

The next step in becoming a volunteer is generally an invitation to attend our office in Great Portland Street to formally begin your induction as a volunteer. We have an open door policy for volunteers so feel free to ask as many questions as you like, get a feel for how our IT systems work and to get a general feel for how we operate.

Vetting:

Basch Helps CIC works with families on the frontline which simply means we go to the homes of our beneficiaries and interact face to face with their parents some of whom have experienced terrible and unspeakable things and for their safety and ours everyone at Basch Helps CIC must undergo a vetting process, where your details are checked by a third party service provider for any red flags.

Volunteer Handbook:

You will be sent our official volunteer handbook which includes our guidelines and policies. Please read through this as it will definitely give you the knowledge to prepare you for the next stage which is all training.

Sign your volunteering contract & vetting consent form:

Once your absolutely certain Basch Helps CIC is the right place to start a volunteering career, your presented with a volunteering contract which you must read and sign in the presence of a senior member of staff.

Training & Skills Building

An opportunity to grow your skills and knowledge because your training covers every facet of Basch Helps CIC and what that means is that you have a brilliant opportunity to explore and hone in those transferable skills for a real world situation.

IT Systems: Our IT is cutting edge, its central to all our key services and how we operate our community organisation as such as a volunteer it’s a great chance to familiarise yourself with relevant technology that may increase your chances of landing that dream job.

Phone system and assessment protocol: As a new volunteer it will be mandatory to learn how to use our complex phone system, how to answer calls effectively and how to build the confidence to comfortably answer incoming calls and how to access our assessment portals.

Warehouse training: Even though you may not wish to be part of the packing team, it is mandatory to understand how AngelBoxes are packed and to better understand and build awareness of our range of stock and how its distributed from a logistical perspective.

Safeguarding Adults & Children training: This is mandatory training which explores the various signs of abuse, neglect or danger signs, the do’s & don’ts as a volunteer when supporting a vulnerable person and how to report your concerns through our IT systems or what to do in an emergency situation.

AngelBox Delivery Training: You will learn how to use our body-worn cameras, what to expect on delivery days, how to use our delivery note system, how to report concerns post-delivery or special request items and most importantly how to address the parents of our beneficiaries in a polite, genuine way which helps us understand their situation and needs.

Mental Health Training: Once you’ve gained some volunteering rep, you’ll be invited to participate in some mental health training which involves how to challenge the stigma behind mental health, the signs and symptoms of a parent thats undiagnosed or needs mental health support. How to listen and communicate non-judgmentally and most importantly learn how to use our MH reporting systems and how to signpost parents to professional services or support groups.

What to expect on a typical AngelBox Delivery

You’ll be accompanied by a senior member of the team and travel on your scheduled delivery. A typical day will last anywhere between 4 hours to a full 12 hour day depending on the assigned team or borough your delivering to.

From knocking on the door, to introducing yourself and showing your ID card, your role invites you to meet the parents and their newborns on a personal level, get to know them and better understand their situation whilst also checking on the welfare of the baby.

Perks for the delivery volunteers:

  • A great way to explore London and see the landmarks
  • Where possible we will arrange to for transportation to drop you home or travel expenses
  • Complimentary Lunch/Dinner
  • Refreshments galore
  • Make friends

Basch Helps CIC is a frontline community enterprise that engages and supports some of the most vulnerable people living in London. Volunteers will always be appropriately trained and screened before being added to an emergency relief deployment team.

Our AngelBox community service operates 7 days a week and sometimes deliver and support families and newborn’s way past 9pm in the evening so please factor this in when you make your decision about volunteering with us.

At Basch Helps CIC, a volunteer is an empowered individual, you’re not bound by any limitations but free to achieve your goals and feel accomplished every time, free to express yourself, free to share your skills and knowledge, free to make friends and most importantly free to enjoy yourself.

We proactively protect these liberating freedoms by safeguarding you from any unwarranted behaviour, sexual harassment or abuse. Everyone involved, whether it’s the advisory board, team leaders or volunteers must demonstrate their commitment to our code of conduct, volunteer and safeguarding policies at all times.

Work & Voluntary Experience

We just want to know a tiny bit about your existing work experience, any previous volunteering experience.

Why do you want volunteer at Basch Helps CIC

This section of our application form is your chance to tell us, why you believe your an ideal volunteering candidate and how your contribution towards our AngelBox community service will make a beneficial impact on both our organisation and the community.

We're full of action

Volunteering at Basch Helps CIC is physically demanding.

There's always lots of calls and admin to help with if your applying for an office based role. But on days were demand is high for AngelBox distribution you may be required to join delivery team as that's our priority.

Warehouse volunteers have a physically demanding role they have to store deliveries on the appropriate shelves, storage bins and will be required to understand our delivery system and continually pack heavy emergency relief packages.

Each AngelBox weighs on average 20kg once assembled and this excludes additional equipment, frequently as a delivery volunteer you may be required to carry an AngelBox up tight staircases because the communal lift isn't working.

So it's our duty to make sure everyone applying is physically capable of the required role their applying for.

Consent & Submission

Your almost there. Our advice before submitting this form is to make sure you've thoroughly read all of our key policies.

All the information provided will be kept on file for 2 calendar years.
