Over the past couple of months, we’ve had many questions about immigration from the parents of our beneficiaries. There is genuine concern amongst the asylum seeking community particularly vulnerable lone mothers who have escaped from traumatic events only to fall into another trap which is deeply affecting their mental health.
The most common questions we are asked from Asylum seeking lone parents:
- What are my chances of being flown to Rwanda this year?
- When will I get a decision from the Home Office?
- Now that my baby is born, why am I still in a hotel/B&B?
- My child was born in London, shouldn’t I be automatically entitled to British citizenship?
It’s an unfair burden to carry around everyday and noticed with every visit these underprivileged mum’s are becoming more frantic about their personal circumstances, anxious to pick up phone calls, answer the door or read the post.
We all at Basch Helps CIC continue to support them by spending more time with them, where possible translating the situation as it is and demystifying the myths that are alienating their ability to resume a normal purposeful life regardless of their pending immigration decision and are encouraging them to focus on their cute little munchkins, to get out of the 4 wall environment and get some fresh air.
On occasion, we’ve supported their older kids with their very own personal boxes filled with clothes, toiletries, English, Maths, Science and colouring books with all the extra stationary. That’s not including the toys and toiletries, All Brand New, literally trying everything in our power to show them London has a human side too and that there is hope left in our city.
