Six years on, our community enterprise continues to deliver hope, dignity and essential support to thousands of families despite unprecedented demand and mounting economic pressures
As many charities and community enterprises face growing uncertainty or even closure, Basch Helps CIC remains committed to ensuring that every baby has a safe and supported start in life. Six years after beginning its journey during the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisation continues to expand its reach, innovate its services, and support families facing some of the toughest economic conditions in recent memory.
Founded during the first national lockdown in 2020, Basch Helps was created in response to the increasing number of families struggling to access essential items for their newborns. While many organisations scaled back during the pandemic, Basch Helps adapted, grew, and continued delivering practical support directly to families across London.
Today, the organisation has supported more than 11,000 London newborns and toddlers and 4,480 parents, with services delivered entirely through a community-focused and volunteer-led model.
Six Years of Proven Community Impact
Since its inception, Basch Helps CIC has raised hundreds of thousands in funding and established trusted partnerships across London’s NHS departments, charities and local borough family centres. Recognised for its community work with a prestigious NHS Award and featured prominently in the press, our community enterprise achievements to date include:
- 11,000+ Support Packages Delivered: Providing emergency relief directly to doorsteps.
- 5,000+ Parents Supported: Direct guidance, welfare assistance, and community integration.
- 2,000+ Babies Reached Annually: In the past year alone, 2,091 newborns and toddlers received emergency relief.
Lifeline Services: AngelBox & Parent Space
At the heart of Basch Helps’ operations are two core initiatives designed to protect infants and support caregivers:
- The AngelBox: A flagship emergency relief package packed with a month’s supply of nappies, baby clothing, blankets, milk formula, feeding bottles, toiletries, and over 60 essential item types. By receiving an AngelBox, families consistently save hundreds of pounds—crucial funds that are directly reallocated toward food security, heating, hygiene necessities, and paying down household debt.
- Parent Space: A dedicated support ecosystem offering direct signposting, advice, and empowering tools for parents navigating systemic hardship, social isolation, or economic crises.
AngelBox, an innovative baby emergency relief programme providing essential baby items and equipment to families experiencing financial hardship. Unlike traditional baby banks, AngelBox uses structured assessment, technology-enabled processes, and personalised support pathways to ensure families receive the right support at the right time.
For thousands of families, AngelBox has meant more than receiving baby essentials. By helping parents avoid the significant cost of purchasing vital newborn items, the programme has enabled many households to redirect hundreds of pounds towards food, utilities, hygiene products, rent, debt repayments and other critical household expenses during periods of crisis. Many parents have told us that the support arrived at exactly the moment they needed it most.
Alongside AngelBox, Parent Space continues to provide holistic support to families through wellbeing resources, befriending services, health information, cost-of-living guidance, community engagement opportunities and digital support hubs designed to reduce isolation and improve outcomes for both parents and babies.
The organisation’s impact has been recognised beyond the community sector. In 2023, Basch Helps was honoured with the North West London NHS Health Equity Award, recognising its contribution to reducing inequalities and supporting vulnerable families. The charity has also been featured in the press and received recognition from healthcare partners, community organisations and stakeholders across London.
Yet the need has never been greater.
Families continue to face the combined effects of inflation, rising housing costs, energy bills, food insecurity and wider economic uncertainty across London. These pressures are hitting expectant parents and families with young children particularly hard. As a result, demand for AngelBox and Parent Space remains at unprecedented levels, with increasing numbers of referrals being received from healthcare professionals, community organisations and parents themselves.
Despite these challenges, Basch Helps continues to evolve. Our community enterprise has invested in digital systems, tracking technology, self-service portals and online support resources to improve accessibility, maximise efficiency and reduce waste while ensuring that limited resources achieve the greatest possible impact for families.
“Our mission has always been simple: to ensure every child has a safe and supported start in life. We have overcome the pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis and continuous economic pressures, but our focus remains unchanged. Every family deserves dignity, every parent deserves support, and every baby deserves the best possible start.”
Basch Helps would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to every funder, donor, corporate partner, volunteer, healthcare professional, local authority partner and supporter who has helped make this work possible over the last six years. Every AngelBox delivered, every parent supported and every positive outcome achieved has been made possible through collective community action.
