On the 20th & 27th of November 2022 take your children to the Kilburn Park School top-up site.
What is Polio in a nutshell?
Polio is a serious infection that’s now very rare because of the vaccination programme. Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a disabling and life-threatening disease caused by the poliovirus. The virus spreads from person to person and can infect a person’s spinal cord, causing paralysis (can’t move parts of the body).
The chance of getting ill from polio is higher if you are not fully vaccinated, so it’s important to make sure you, and your child, are up to date with your vaccines.
Washing your hands with soap and water or using hand sanitiser regularly throughout the day also helps you avoid catching and spreading viruses.
What if I don’t live in Brent?
How your child can get vaccinated depends on their age.
- For children aged 1 to 4 years old, contact your GP surgery to book a vaccination appointment. Some vaccination sites can also vaccinate children aged 1 to 4 years old.
- For children aged 5 to 9 years old, they can get vaccinated at a vaccination site.
You can book an appointment at some vaccination sites, others can do walk-in appointments without booking.
